And so, should everyone go to analysis?
For many people, the encounter with psychoanalysis is the result of a disencounter. For example, people who had a conception of what they wanted to achieve in life and once they are close to or have achieved what they once idealised, are faced with the dissatisfaction of not seeing in that ideal what moves them within themselves. Or they have even found a way to ruin what they have achieved.
Others have found themselves immobilised by the decision to take the necessary steps to pursue their desire and look to analysis for a helping hand to find their own way out, honouring their uniqueness. Subjects who continue to blame what happens or doesn’t happen on something outside, without acknowledging their responsibility for their journey.
Many young people also come to the clinic wondering about their future, those who are about to finish their high school, university, etc., and, for example, are unsure about their next steps. Others simply postpone completing their studies, fearing the prospect of facing new beginnings and responsibilities.
Children brought to the clinic by their families when they seem to be unresponsive to anyone, who take on dominant and capricious positions, and feel they have absolute autonomy to command their own choices.
People who somehow find themselves submerged in the darkness of sadness, who feel isolated, misunderstood, abandoned, and those who have difficulty relating to other members of their culture, also go to psychoanalysis. People with various types of addictions. Others have physical ailments for which physicians and specialists can find no cause. People with phobias also consult, as well as those who have lost a loved one.
There are other examples that offer a glimpse into the fields to which psychoanalytic practice extends. For example, representatives of certain religious doctrines, such as Pope Francis (recently deceased), who also underwent psychoanalysis “to clarify things.” In politics, the current president of Argentina has been analysing the root of a traumatic event for 25 years. In sports, cyclists, soccer players, athletes, and other practitioners of different disciplines also go to psychoanalysis.
