A recap of the second international conference
It was three fascinating days at our second international conference, entitled “Invention: A Singular path”.
On the first day, the group travelled to the city of Zurich as part of the cultural and academic activities.
On 22 and 23 May, we got down to work. We also had the official launch of the publishing house Artemisa Verlag, an initiative of causAbock.
Invention, as the significant of the conference, was given prominence, quoting the words of the psychoanalyst Jacques-Alain Miller, who says that: “the term invention is naturally opposed to that of creation”.
From this perspective, Miller continues, “creation places the emphasis on invention ex nihilo, from nothing”. Similarly, the psychoanalyst states that, “invention is more easily contrasted with discovery. One discovers what is already there; one invents what is not. It is in this sense that invention is related to creation. But the emphasis of the term ‘invention’ in this case is on creation from existing materials”.
With the distinction between invention and creation, and with the honour that his presence at the conference merits, the psychoanalyst Héctor Gallo opened this year’s conference with his lecture entitled “Invention in Psychosis”; a beautiful counterpoint between Gérard de Nerval and James Joyce. From the outset, it was recognised that creation also formed part of the theme of our conference.
For the presentation by Artemisa Verlag, we were honoured to have the participation of the psychoanalyst and scientific director of the publishing house, José María Álvarez, who presented his book: Prinzipien einer Psychotherapie der Psychose, already published in five languages, the German version of which is also an initiative of la Otra psiquiatría in collaboration with causAbock.
Likewise, the psychoanalyst Héctor Gallo presented his book Suizid, psychische Gesundheit und der Wunsch zu leben. Eine mögliche psychoanalytische Klinik, published in Spanish by Xoroi Edicions and soon to be published in German by Artemisa Verlag.
Our thanks go to Xoroi and, in particular, to its editor Henry Odell, for joining us at the presentation of Artemisa Verlag and for paving the way for us as a publisher through the support they have provided.
Our thanks to the attendees and the panelists. Each shared their experience of psychoanalysis and how they have managed to cultivate a better relationship with life and the desire within them. They recounted their encounter with psychoanalysis and, in particular, with their analyst, Yoany Rendón. To whom we extend our heartfelt thanks for her support, participation, and for being part of this endeavor.
